A 13-year-old Chicago boy is kicking off the holiday season of giving with "The Backpack Project."

Ryan Gustis, with the help of his father, gives out backpacks full of essential items, including blankets and snacks, to homeless people.

Since he started the project three years ago, the teen has donated roughly 550 bags.

"The biggest lesson we can teach Ryan is that it's not just about giving somebody money, it's giving them kindness and dignity," his dad said.
