Justice Pearson was at a low point in 2018. After a tumultuous break up, she tried to kill herself by trying to crash her car on the highway.

She was then arrested in Virginia on several charges, including assault, and spent about three weeks behind bars. And when she was released, her mother didn’t let her return home. She had nowhere to go and was homeless for about two weeks until she reached out for help to a counselor at her Dallas high school.

But now the 18-year-old is studying criminal justice at the University of North Texas and she credits Dallas homeless youth service providers with helping her get her life back on track.

“I can’t take it back. Do I have regrets? Yes, but all I can do now is take this and transform it into something better,” Pearson said.
